Acapulco, 1969
Padel wasn't born in Spain.
It was born in Acapulco, Mexico, in 1969.
Back then, Acapulco was the place everyone dreamed of. Cliff divers at La Quebrada. Pink-and-white jeeps climbing the hills of Las Brisas. Long lunches that turned into sunsets.
In a house in Las Brisas, a tennis lover named Enrique Corcuera wanted a court of his own. There wasn't room for a full tennis court, so he built a smaller one, 20 by 10 metres, and closed it in with walls. The ball kept coming back. The rallies got longer. Everyone wanted a turn.
His wife, Viviana, wrote the first rules as a birthday present. Friends came to play, and one of them, Alfonso de Hohenlohe, took the game home to Marbella. From there, it went everywhere. Today padel is played in more than 150 countries.
Three games, one club
A tennis lover built the first padel court because a full tennis court wouldn't fit. So the two games have been cousins since the start.
Pickleball is the friendly cousin: a smaller court, an easy game to start, and a lot of laughing.
We make bags for all three. Padel, tennis and pickleball are different games, with different gear. But the best part of each is the same: who's on the court with you, and the table after.
Why Acapulco Social Club
I'm Diego, and I'm Mexican. I grew up hearing about Acapulco's golden years, saw my first pro tennis there, and spent a lot of my childhood hitting tennis balls against stone walls. Today I live in Sydney.
Acapulco Social Club is my way of bringing that feeling back: bags for padel, tennis and pickleball, for the game and everything after it. It's a social club because the best part was never the walls. It was who was inside them.
